North Carolina's education system is transitioning from providing an industrial-age, one-size-fits-all education to providing the personalized digital-age education students need to be successful in college, careers and civic life in the world of their futures. North Carolina has already made significant progress with statewide initiatives such as the K-12 Education Cloud and Home Base, and many districts in the State have digital learning initiatives well underway.

Recent legislative actions that address preparing educators for digital learning, providing digital resources, and ensuring technology access across all schools, are important steps in moving forward, as are the goals of the new State Board of Education strategic plan.

The goal of the NC Digital Learning Initiative is to build upon the existing foundation to develop a coherent long-term strategy that sets directions and priorities, supports innovation, and provides resources to enable the State's educators and students to benefit fully from digital-age teaching and learning.
